Problem converting wtv file to a mp4

Postby totally_awesome » 11. Aug 2013, 17:25

Hello,

I am getting a err within seconds after starting the conversion. I have looked at the debug log, the "ffmpeg.exe" program does not like something and generates the following error message.....---- ERROR in conversion: filesize is 0 bytes. Perhaps there is a argument that needs to be changed and/or added to the exe to allow it to perform the conversion.
Here is the complete debug log

Re: Problem converting wtv file to a mp4

Postby hudl » 12. Aug 2013, 21:04

Hi!
I see you have checked the setting "use alternate method to convert files". If you have checked this, ffmpeg is used for conversion instead of remuxTool. It is better/faster to uncheck this setting unless you experience any problems.
To track down the error why ffmpeg does not convert the file, I need the full log-output from the output area (not from the file "debugLog" - please see help file on how to use it). This way I can see the error ffmpeg throws.

A possible cause is, that the stream contains subtitles, that ffmpeg isn't able to convert. You can try to add the parameter -sn to the "hidden_tshq" profile in profiles.ini. Let me know if you need help.

Thanks!

Hello,

Thank you for getting back to me. I have added the -sn option to the profiles.ini file here is what is looks like

;================================================================
; Hidden profiles
; Needed for intermediate file conversion
; if section contains "hidden_", the profile is not shown in list
; ---------------------------------------------------------------
[hidden_mpghq]
; used for best quality conversion to MPEG2 - IMPORTANT: audio codec is evaluated by GUI!
command=-deinterlace -vcodec mpeg2video -sameq -f vob
[hidden_mpgcopy]
; used for copy of MPEG2 streams -> stream gets analyzed in GUI
command=-vcodec copy -f vob -acodec copy
[hidden_mpgdvd]
; used for DVD compatible conversion to MPEG2
command=-target pal-dvd -deinterlace -async 48000
[hidden_tshq]
; used for best quality conversion to TS
command=-deinterlace -vcodec mpeg2video -sameq -acodec ac3 -ab 384k -ac 6 -async 48000 -sn
[hidden_videocopy]
; used for all kinds of videos where direct copying of stream is possible (i.e. for cutting streams)
command=-vcodec copy -acodec copy

Here is the log file from the output window

Re: Problem converting wtv file to a mp4

Thanks for the log!

Two things:
  1. It seems the subtitles are causing the problem even though you have added the -sn parameter correctly.
  2. Your path to java.exe is not correct - that's why ffmpeg is used as a fallback. Please check the path - it changed due to a java update - the current valid path should be "C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre7\bin"

For 1. I don't know why ffmpeg wants to convert the subtitles. Maybe the position of -sn is not correct. You can try to convert it manually via commandline with this command:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\MC-TVConverter\tools\ffmpeg\ffmpeg.exe" -y -i "L:\Recorded_TV\conv_fails\Modern Marvels_HISTORY_2013_06_22_05_58_00.wtv" -deinterlace -vcodec mpeg2video -sameq -acodec ac3 -ab 384k -ac 6 -async 48000 -map 0:1 -map 0:0 -sn "L:\Recorded_TV\conv_fails\Modern Marvels_HISTORY_2013_06_22_05_58_00.wtv.ts"

The better way though is, that you correct the path to java.exe and use remuxTool instead of ffmpeg. If all this fails, I would need a sample file to test it by myself - that's way more easy for me. Let me know if it doesn't work!

Hello,

Thanks for the quick response. Here is the java.exe file is located on my computer

C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre7\bin

The folder above is where you said it should be. So why is mctv converter not finding it? I tried the command line suggestion and get errors. I have tried attaching a file to this reply and I was unable to do so. Any ideas such as google drive or drop box as a way to get you the file?

According to your log, you have set the path to java.exe like

C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre6\bin

Now it is "jre7". The path was changed during a java update and mctvc does not search for the exe, if it was already set. Just replace the path with the correct one in settings and remuxTool should work again.

To upload a file it depends on the size where you want to upload it. In this forum I think only 2MB are allowed. Please use one of the sharehosters out there - http://uploaded.net/ http://www.4shared.com/ https://mega.co.nz/ ... or of course, if you prefer, a storage provider. For me it doesn't matter. Thanks!

Hello,

Thanks for pointing out that the path to the java exe was wrong and needed to be updated in the settings. Once I did that the
conversion used "REMUX", and it completed successfully. I did not follow my own "golden rule" of RTFM (Read The Fantastic Mail or Read The Fantastic Manual) I should have paid more attention to the e-mail(s) that you sent earlier.
Thank you for your support and for developing this converter!
