Converting wtv file Source -Frreeview HD

Postby sknapp » 20. Sep 2012, 17:54

I'm trying to convert a media centre recording of a BBC HD programme of approx 5GB into iphone format using version 2.1. But it fails
I've tried the following:
Removing MP4 metadata
Deselecting the convert AAC-LATM audio option.
Converting to Transport Stream

The conversion runs but no file is created .Can anyone help?
Many Thanks

Is conversion to TS is working for you? (WTV is always converted to TS prior the conversion to mp4)
I see there is an faulty value in the "end" parameter of the commandline ("end=383320/09/2012" where it should be a number only for the seconds) to define the end point of a cut. Please try to set no end value for cutting (leave it empty). Don't know why this happens though.
Please post a full log so I can see what other settings where used. Thanks!

Re: Converting wtv file Source -Frreeview HD

Postby hudl » 25. Sep 2012, 12:19

I can see there are 2 audio streams in your file. One is for hearing impaired which means there is no audio at all...
Unfortunately exactly this audio stream is chosen by the tool to convert because it is also the first audio in the line. I adressed this issue already within my next version.

Please try the following commandline:
Code: Select all
"C:\Program Files (x86)\MC-TVConverter\tools\ffmpeg\ffmpeg.exe" -y  -i "C:\Users\Simon\Documents\Made in Britain_BBC HD_2011_06_20_21_01_03.wtv" -deinterlace -vcodec mpeg2video -sameq -acodec ac3 -ab 384k -ac 6 -async 48000 -map 0:2 -map 0:3 "C:\Users\Simon\Documents\Made in Britain_BBC HD_2011_06_20_21_01_03.wtv.ts"

Instead of "-map 0:2 -map 0:1" i changed it to "-map 0:2 -map 0:3" where it should take the real audio stream for conversion.

Do you have JAVA installed? It does not seem so according to log or the path to java.exe is wrong. Conversion with JAVA installed would be a lot faster because instead of ffmpeg it will use remuxTool to convert to TS.

Let me know if you have questions!

Update:

Running from the command line works - but is slow so I tried Java
I have multiple versions of Java so I pointed MC_TV converter to the latest ie Java 7.
I tried to run the ReMux tool directly. It converts to TS ok but again no audio

ffmpeg transcodes the whole file, that's why it is slow. remuxTool just changes the container without transcoding and should also keep all audio streams. So, if you have no audio, you may have to change the current audio stream in your player software.
If you started remuxTool directly, you are able to select the audio stream you want to keep by yourself. Please check that again if you haven't already noticed it.

As already stated, I fixed the problem with hearing impaired audio stream in my next version, but it will use ffmpeg for conversion because there is no parameter in remuxTool. Sadly development has been stopped for it...

Thank you for all your help with this. Now I have a method of converting (albeit a bit slow) I'm happy.
I think the problem might be that the BBC now transmits an audio description stream with its Freeview broadcasts.
Just for clarification, you are saying that the fix you suggested with the command line can not be repeated with remuxtool?
Yes I tried the two audio streams available 0x2b(eng) AAC and 0x2d(eng) AAC. Neither worked (ie no audio)
Thanks once again

You're welcome!
remuxTool only has limited capabilities on commandline that's why I can't choose the correct audio stream with it (only language selection is possible, but in your case both are "eng"). Though audio should work in the resulting ts file. :?: At least I can see no reason why not.
To debug it I would need a sample file for download. So, if you want me to look into it, let me know.

Conversion of wtv files with ffmpeg are now more or less solid and it makes some great progress too. Maybe in a future version it will be possible to convert the files without the need for transcoding. We'll see...
