occasional problem when decoding

Postby edavis6678 » 23. Jan 2015, 03:31

I'm wondering if anyone can help...i record a bunch of TV from Windows Media Center and use MC-TV to convert it to the DVD (*.mpg) profile within MC-TV. (cutting commercials as well)

The process I use as follows:

1) *.WTV files are dumped to directory (recorded from WMC)
2) A script is run on directory that converts files to a format that works with MC-TV

The command I run is as follows:

c:\windows\ehome\wtvconverter.exe "d:\Recorded TV\pre-covert\*.wtv" "d:\Recorded TV\Converted"

then I have MC-TV watch the folder and it converts using the DVD(.mpg) profile.

Most cases it works great. Occasionally, though, i'll get a few files that do NOT convert and I get the following errors in the log...

Whatever I do I can't seem to convert these files....

here is a sample of the log....can anyone help?

Hi and welcome!

What do you mean by "A script is run on directory that converts files to a format that works with MC-TV"? MCTVC is made to work with wtv files!? Indeed, this is its main purpose.
There is no need to convert wtv files first. It is even better, not to do it! Try it without conversion to dvr-ms before and let me know if it works/fails.

I had some issue with WTV files and I think it had to do with comskip -- i will try again, but whatever the reason I know that the only solution I found was to convert them.I googled' this and came across this.

http://www.hack7mc.com/2009/02/convert- ... dvrms.html

I sorry i dont' have the exact reason as to why I had to convert, but I will the log on a file I'm running now that I did NOT convert from .WTV

Ok - I ran one file without converting it and it was perfect...now i'm puzzled -- i'm going to skip the conversion step now for all my recordings and see if I get any additional errors. I set this up some time ago I apologize that I wasn't exactly sure why i had to do that conversion step.

No problem!
You have to know that wtv can contain different video codecs. Mostly mpeg2 (SD) and h264 (HD) where only mpeg2 is supported to cut commercials. Also, only this format is supported by wtvconverter.exe to convert to dvr-ms. If a video is HD, you have to convert it to mpeg2 first to be able to cut commercials.
Cheers! :)
