Re: wtv to mp4 conversion

Hi and welcome billmao!

Thanks for the debug info. It seems the audio part of the stream makes problems. You can try 3 things:

  1. enable "use alternate conversion method" in settings (tab "AV-Stream").
  2. add the "new language" to the list of available languages and convert only one audio stream. Maybe this will work, but it is not guaranteed. Do like this:

    • open the config file with a text editor (path: "C:\Users\YOUR_NAME\AppData\Roaming\MC-TVConverter\config.ini"
    • find the line "preferredLanguageArray=auto|all|dan|eng|fra|ger|deu|nor|spa" and change it to "preferredLanguageArray=auto|all|dan|eng|fra|ger|deu|nor|spa|0x17|0x18".
    • save the file and reopen MCTVC.
    • goto settings and select either "0x17" or "0x18" as the preferred language.
    • now try to convert your file again
  3. add a custom profile to directly convert WTV to mp4. Add the following lines to your profile file ("C:\Program Files (x86)\MC-TVConverter\profiles.ini"):

    [Custom MP4 HQ (*.mp4) (input: wtv,dvr-ms,mpg,ts,avi,mp4,wmv)]
    targettype=custom
    outputExtension=mp4
    inputExtensions=wtv|dvr-ms|mpg|mpeg|ts|m2ts|avi|mp4|wmv
    executablePath=handbrake
    executable=HandBrakeCLI.exe
    command=-i <@inputfile@> -e x264 -q 20.0 -d -a 1 -E faac -B 160 -6 6ch -R 48 -D 0.0 -f mp4 --strict-anamorphic --decomb -m -x cabac=0:ref=2:me=umh:bframes=0:weightp=0:8x8dct=0:trellis=0:subme=6 -o <@outputfile@>

Let me know it that works for you!

Hi hudl:

Thank you for your quick response, although I am sad to report that I still cannot get the file to convert correctly.

regarding method 2 and 3, it seems it's producing the same error and the log looks identical.

regarding method 1, I do have an output file but the picture is mostly grey and has no audio.

here is the log for using the alternative conversion method:

Thank you for your great help!

Hmmm. Guess there are more problems in the stream. FFmpeg can't read the stream for whatever reason. Only thing you can try now is another (newer) build of FFmpeg.
Download it here: http://ffmpeg.zeranoe.com/builds/ (32-bit Builds (Static) - Latest)
Search for the ffmpeg.exe in the downloaded zip and replace the one within the MCTV installation folder (tools/ffmpeg/) with this one (make a backup of the original one). Then try again to convert it. Maybe the devs of ffmpeg fixed this problem in a newer version.

Other than that, the only help I could give you is if you upload a sample of a broken recording somewhere. I could try other settings/tools but hope is low... :(
But first let's try a new ffmpeg version. :)

Hi hudl:

It seems the video I've been trying to comvert is corrupted somehow. I tried to convert another file and it did convert correctly.

Now I'll poke around the profile file and try different parameters and commands to suit my need.

Is there a knowledge base regarding the use of HandBrakeCLI.exe that you can recommand? I can't imagine I'd encode with anything other than x264.

Again, thank you for this great tool and your timly help.

You're welcome!

Do you mean something like this https://trac.handbrake.fr/wiki/CLIGuide ? I think handbrake itself also uses ffmpeg in some way, so it may not solve the problem with your corrupted file but you can try of course.
And you are right, x264 is a great tool! ;)
