2 Problems: convert to WMV and MP4

Postby bigbug » 28. Feb 2012, 22:38

Hi,

I've installed MC-TVConverter, and experienced 2 problems:

1. I can't convert ANY format to WMV. I've tried both HD and SD, in the format of WTV, DVR-MS, and MPEG. Each time I start converting, it took only 2 seconds to finish, with a 0 byte WMV files.

Please see the log at the end of the post.

2. When I convert HD (16:9) wtv to MP4, the left and right side of the video have been cut off to make it the iPad/iPhone ratio. Can I change the setting to keep the full view with upper and lower black space, instead of chopping off the sides?

Thanks.

Hi!
Please run the following commandline and see what errors you get:

Code: Select all
"C:\Program Files\MC-TVConverter\tools\ffmpeg\ffmpeg.exe" -y -i "C:\TV\Monkey See, Monkey Do_CICADT_2012_02_14_09_11_00.mpg" -deinterlace -vcodec wmv2 -qscale 4 -s 720x480 -maxrate 4000k -bufsize 4096 -acodec wmav2 -ac 2 -ab 128k -async 48000 "C:\TV\Monkey See, Monkey Do_CICADT_2012_02_14_09_11_00.mpg.wmv"

Or just convert one file with the status output area opened and post the log. This way I see what error ffmpeg throws. Please read the help (section "Reporting bugs") on how to do it.

(the "showErrorOnJavaFault" is just a settings output nothing to worry)

Thanks!

Ok, I ran the command line and get this error:

http://pastebin.com/Z7bN8XJN

Among the log there are 2 lines of highlighted errors:

[wmv2 @ 025B6460] VBV buffer too small for bitrate
.....
Error while opening encoder for output stream #0.0 - maybe incorrect parameters
such as bit_rate, rate, width or height

Hope this helps, thanks.

OK - obviously you are the only one who actually converts to WMV because I do have a mistake in the profile commandline that slipped through in my betatesting... ;)

Do the following: open "profiles.ini" in a text editor. You can find this file in the root of your MCTVC installation. Find the line "[WMV Extender (*.wmv)]" and change the command below it to:

Code: Select all
command=-deinterlace -vcodec wmv2 -qscale 4 -s 720x480 -acodec wmav2 -ac 2 -ab 128k -async 48000

If you want to keep the original size and quality, use the following line:

Code: Select all
command=-deinterlace -vcodec wmv2 -sameq -acodec wmav2 -ac 2 -ab 128k -async 48000

You can change the parameters to your likings and see what works best for you. The "-s 720x480" resizes the video to 720x480 pixel for example. I currently don't use cropping in my profiles, it depends on your player settings how a video is scaled on your screen.
